“Flush Away Inequality: Obuasi Marks World Toilet Day 2024”

Clean Team Ghana has partnered Obuasi East and the Obuasi Municipal Assemblies to mark the 2024 World Toilet Day in Obuasi. The program was under the theme: “SANITATION FOR PEACE”.

World Toilet Day, celebrated on 19 November every year, is about inspiring action to tackle the global sanitation crisis and reach the 3.5 billion people still living without safely managed sanitation.

This year’s celebration is dedicated to raising awareness about the global sanitation crisis and advocating for the universal human right to hygienic and dignified sanitation services, including access to toilets.

Addressing participants , CEO of Clean Team Ghana Limited, Abigail Aruna, said World Toilet Day is an occasion that reminds us of the importance of sanitation and hygiene in our lives and our communities.

She said accessing a safe and dignified sanitation is not just a basic human right; it is also a foundation for harmony within families, communities, and even nations.

She said having a good sanitation helps the health and well-being of families, dignity and equality, economic prosperity as it also protects the environment.

Ms Aruna expressed how proud her company is, to be part of the solution.

“We at Clean team Ghana provide affordable and sustainable sanitation services to households, ensuring that people, particularly in urban and peri-urban areas, have access to clean and dignified toilets”.

She however called on governments, private sector players, and international partners to prioritize investments in sanitation infrastructure since the return on it is not just economic but a social and environmental peace.

The Municipal Environmental Officer for Obuasi West, Fuseina Imoro said as environmental officers, they recognize the critical role that toilet plays in maintaining a healthy environment and promoting sustainable development.

She said according to the 2021 population and housing census, 13,300 household do not have their own toilet and these people resort to opening defecation leading to water pollution, soil contamination and disease outbreak.

She then made an appeal and advice those who do not have their own toilet to contact Clean Team Ghana Limited since they have made toilet facilities available at an affordable rate.

On investment made by institutions towards improving sanitation in Obuasi, Daniel Arthur Bentum, Economic Development officer of AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi Mine, said as part of the company’s 10 years Socio Economic Development plan, two toilet facilities has been built at Anyimadukrom and Anhwiam which is serving the people in those communities.

On the issue of Sanitation, he said AGA, through Keep Obuasi Clean Campaign has distributed over 20 skip bucket containers for the past three (3) years in Adansi to improve good sanitation.

” AngloGold Ashanti has made five (5) mechanize borehole available to communities while three (3) of such projects are ongoing in some communities. These show how committed AGA is when it comes to sanitation”, he added.

Clean Team Ghana is a social service company, delivering vital in-home sanitation to low-income residents of Kumasi and Obuasi.

They provide improved sanitation, convenience and dignity, whilst offering cost savings to the underserved sector. They are into Container-Based Sanitation, Bio-Digester Toilets and Processing of Waste.
