NCCE Hosts Parliamentary Candidates Dialogue to Address Voter Concerns in Ayawaso West Wuogon
The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) in the Ayawaso West Wuogon Municipality has organized a Parliamentary Candidates Dialogue ahead of the upcoming elections. The event, spearheaded by the Municipal Director, Mr. Edem Afeeva, aimed to provide a platform for candidates to address pressing issues raised by the electorate.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Afeeva explained that the dialogue was informed by research conducted by the NCCE to identify matters of concern to Ghanaian voters. “We decided to hold this dialogue for the parliamentary aspirants so that the electorate could ask questions and understand how these candidates plan to address their concerns,” he stated.
However, the absence of some candidates at the dialogue sparked discussions about respect for state institutions. Mr. Afeeva remarked, “It is not respectful to state institutions like the NCCE, which organized this program with the support of the media and the police. Nonetheless, we were able to engage with the candidates who were present, and I believe those who were absent will reflect on the proceedings.”
The dialogue, held every election year, offers citizens an opportunity to interact with candidates and gain insights into their plans for governance. “This platform is part of the social contract. Voters give their mandate to candidates, expecting them to protect citizens and provide essential services. It’s crucial for the electorate to know how candidates intend to fulfill these responsibilities,” Mr. Afeeva emphasized.
The event underscores the NCCE’s commitment to fostering civic engagement and ensuring informed voter participation as the country heads to the polls in three weeks.
