Promoting Peaceful Elections: CDS Africa Engages Market Women
In a bid to promote democracy and peace ahead of Ghana’s elections, the Africa Center for Democracy and Socioeconomic Development (CDS Africa) has launched an initiative to educate market women on their civic responsibilities. This effort is in partnership with the National Commission for Civic Education (NCC).
Speaking at the Madina Market in the Greater Accra region on November 15, 2024, Celestina Damoah, Head of Advocacy and Public Engagement at CDS Africa, emphasized the importance of peaceful elections. “We’re reminding market women that they have a voice and a crucial role to play in promoting democracy and ensuring peace during and after the elections,” she said.
Key Objectives of the Initiative
- Empower Market Women: Educate market women on their rights and responsibilities in promoting democracy.
- Promote Peaceful Elections: Encourage non-violence and responsible civic behavior during elections.
- Foster National Unity: Emphasize the importance of national harmony over political allegiances.
