Dr. George Ayisi Boateng Urges Ghanaians to Support Bawumia as the Path to Progress
Dr. Ayisi Boateng former high commissioner has passionately appealed to Ghanaians, especially members of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), to rally behind Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in the upcoming elections, declaring that no true NPP member should support former President John Mahama.
Addressing the matter on the Maakye Show with Kwabena Owusu Dankwa, He shared that disappointment in politics should not breed resentment, using his own experience as an example. “If I was asked to step down as a commissioner, should I be disappointed? No, that would be selfish of me. When we work for the good of others, we accept decisions for the greater good,” he stated.
He highlighted Dr. Bawumia’s qualities of selflessness, hard work, and decisive leadership, emphasizing that these are the traits Ghana needs for progress. According to him, Bawumia has brought significant change and has proven his commitment to improving the lives of Ghanaians, offering bold solutions and a vision for economic advancement.
Dr. Boateng cited key initiatives under Bawumia’s guidance, including the Ghana Card, which he said has given every Ghanaian a unique identity and introduced a system for assessing creditworthiness.
These developments, he noted, were unheard of under Mahama’s leadership, referencing Mahama’s claim that Free SHS could only be implemented in 20 years a vision that the current administration has made a reality.
He also praised Bawumia’s handling of global fuel price hikes, explaining that the Vice President’s innovative barter system, using Ghana’s gold reserves, has shielded Ghanaians from extreme costs. “Without this initiative, fuel could be over 300 to 400 cedis per gallon. Instead, prices have stabilized over the past six months,” he asserted.
He warned against divisive politics, emphasizing the need for national unity and inclusivity over regionalism. He pointed out that Bawumia promotes peace, unity, and forward-thinking policies that uplift all Ghanaians, regardless of their region.
He acknowledged the challenges the government faced due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the Russia-Ukraine war, which impacted Ghana’s economy and delayed tax reductions that were initially promised.
Still, he argued, the administration under Bawumia and the current president has created over two million jobs. He further assured business owners that Bawumia plans to simplify import duties with a flat rate system if elected.
Dr. Boateng concluded by praising Bawumia’s consistency and commitment to accountability, contrasting it with Mahama’s potential single-term presidency. He urged Ghanaians to choose progress, envisioning Bawumia as the leader best suited to move Ghana forward.
