Farmers’ Day: “I will provide free tertiary education for children of cocoa farmers” -Bawumia promises
The Vice president and the presidential candidate for the New Patriotic Party Dr Mahamadu Bawumia has pledged to offer free tertiary education for students whose parents are cocoa farmers should he become the next president of the country.
Dr. Bawumia noted that the implementation of the free SHS has abolished the cocoa scholarship scheme, hence, his next administration will introduce a new policy to assist cocoa farmers’ students.
Speaking at the farmers’ day celebration at Jacobu in Odotrobi constituency, Vice President Dr Bawumia said such an initiative will motivate the cocoa farmers to do well to expand cocoa production.
The presidential candidate remarked that due to the successful implementation of planting for food and jobs, food security in the country has improved significantly.
Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia stated that since the planting for food and jobs has been fruitful, Ghana is 3rd in 54 African countries in terms of food security ranking.
The Parliamentary candidate for the Odotobri constituency Lawyer Anthony Mhieh speaking at the farmers’ day celebration urged the youth to venture into agriculture.
Jacobuhene Nana Adu Darko II for his side reckoned how deforestation and other land degradation are affecting farming in the area and asked the government for measures to mitigate the menace.
