Politics Is Not For The Faint-Hearted, You Need A Thick Skin- Dan Lartey Jr, Flagbearer Of GCPP
Dr. Daniel Augustus Lartey Junior, the flagbearer of the Great Consolidated Popular Party (GCPP), stated on the Live Maakye Show, “I have a deep understanding of Ghanaian politics and recognize that it is not for the faint-hearted. If you don’t have a thick skin, it’s not something you should pursue.”
He explained that his insight comes from his father, the late Dan Lartey, who was active in politics from an early age.
Through listening to discussions within his father’s political circle and assisting with his newspaper publications, Dr. Lartey gained valuable lessons about the political arena.
This was in response to the host’s question about whether his 40 years living in the United Kingdom might limit his understanding of Ghanaian politics and his ability to serve as president.
Reflecting on his recent appointment as the GCPP flagbearer at the party’s conference, he described the experience as “quite surreal,” adding that it was still sinking in.
He acknowledged that becoming the presidential candidate introduces a new level of responsibility, demanding a heightened seriousness to meet the expectations of the presidency.
Drawing a comparison between his private life and his new role, Dr. Lartey highlighted his career as an independent financial consultant and businessman in the United Kingdom over the past four decades.
He believes this experience has provided him with substantial exposure to democracy and the rule of law, enhancing his ability to analyze and appreciate issues through a critical lens.
Sharing more about his background with Ghanaians, Dr. Lartey explained that he first trained as a financial consultant in 1992 with Prudential Assurance.
Later, he began working independently in the UK, collaborating with various financial institutions and serving clients worldwide. At one point, he also held the position of Managing Director of Projects for British Ecopower.
He highlighted that his extensive experience in finance speaks for itself, strengthened by his in-depth knowledge of the UK financial sector.
In conclusion, he confidently stated, “There is nothing I will face that I can’t handle.”
The flagbearer has declared himself ready to present Ghanaians with the change they need. But are Ghanaians ready to move beyond the NPP and NDC? In just 30 days, the decision will be made.
