Francis Addo Claims Ghanaians Have Embraced John Mahama’s 24-Hour Economy
Mr. Francis Addo, a member of the NDC Communication team for the Ashanti region, stated that Ghanaians have accepted the 24-hour economy and are ready to embrace it.
He made the during a discussion on the Adwenkyere show on Kessben TV, hosted by Wofa Kofi Appiah.
He emphasized that the 24-hour economy is the gospel of Mahama. According to him, this policy has been wholeheartedly accepted by Ghanaians of all ages, genders, and backgrounds, and it is significantly impacting the NPP campaign.
Mr. Addo asserted, “Ghanaians have accepted it because it addresses all issues surrounding Ghana’s economy.” He claimed that every Ghanaian is talking about this policy due to its positive effects.
However, he acknowledged that there are critics and questions surrounding this policy. He used the platform to address these concerns, elaborating on hospital statistics where the 24-hour system is already in place.
He explained that hospitals operating continuously ensure that in any emergency situation, a solution is always available.
He suggested that if this system is implemented across all job fields, there will always be assistance available when needed.
According to Mr. Addo, the 24-hour economy will also increase the employment rate in Ghana.
He highlighted that a system allowing access at any time should be replicated in all sectors. He referenced passport offices and banks, suggesting that if they operated under a 24-hour economy , it would boost economic growth.
Mr. Addo criticized the ineffectiveness of e-mobile bank transactions, which many people complain about. He pointed out that while the NPP claims to want to increase digitalization, people still face issues and have to visit banks.
Therefore, the NDC is introducing a system where, even if there is no network at home, banks will still operate, allowing successful transactions at any time.
Moreover, he stated, “At the end of the day, it is the demand we are looking at. How does the demand arise? Demand comes when there is availability of what you want.”
Currently, the unemployment rate is hovering around 15%. Mr. Addo argued that if banks operated in shifts, it would reduce the unemployment rate in Ghana. He emphasized that this is what Ghanaians are looking for, not just digitalization.
He ended up providing statistics on the 24-hour economy in other countries like China, South Africa, and the United Arab Emirates. He concluded by stating that a well-functioning system is one that operates under a 24-hour economy.
