Election 2024: The NDC is Not Committed to the Peace Pact – Awal Mohammed
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is not committed to signing the peace pact, as stated by Awal Mohammed, the National Communications PRO for YEA.
Awal asserted on the Maakye show on Kessben TV that the NDC is a violent party. He claimed that the NDC has revolutionary roots when it comes to violence.
He referred to former President Mahama’s statement during the 2020 runoff election, where Mahama said, “When it comes to unleashing violence, there is no party that beats the NDC.”
Furthermore, Awal mentioned that former President Mahama, speaking on Atinka Radio in 2021 after a violent incident during the elections that resulted in two deaths, declared that the 2024 election would be a “do or die” affair.
Awal posed a rhetorical question, asking who killed Hon. Afrifa and the soldiers before the NDC became prominent. He implied that many people were killed in the country.
Moreover, he pointed out that former heads of state were killed during the Rawlings administration. According to him, the NDC was founded in blood, which is why peace is never an option for them.
Awal also stated that just last week, the first NDC vice chairman, Hon. Azuka, announced plans to open a branch of a vigilante organization in the Ashanti region. The purpose of these boys, he claimed, is to destabilize and create violence in this year’s election, causing fear and panic among Ashantis to prevent them from going to the polling stations to vote.
Therefore, he argued, it is a joke to expect the same person whose national vice executive is organizing vigilante boys for violence to sign a peace pact. He believes it will not work because, even if they sign, they will not act accordingly. According to Hon. Awal Mohammed, the NDC is not known for peace; it is a violent party.
