NDC raises alarm over fake news surge targeting Muslim community ahead of election
Eric Adjei, Deputy Spokesperson for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Vice Presidential Candidate, has expressed alarm over the rise in fake news as the election in December draws closer. Following the creation of a phony social media account in his name that purportedly disseminated falsehoods meant to hurt the Muslim community, Mr. Adjei was issued a warning.
In a post on Facebook, Mr Adjei voiced his frustration over the spread of misinformation, asking, “Why do our colleagues on the other side enjoy spreading fake news?”
He emphasized his close relationships to the Muslim community and denounced the untrue report.
“I have family members and friends who are Muslims,” he said, urging the public to ignore what he termed “cheap propaganda.”
Mr. Adjei suggested that taxpayer-funded operatives are responsible for the disinformation effort, attributing the increase in fake news to those connected to the presidency.
He warned, “In these last days, they’ll be pushing false information to mislead some Ghanaians.”
