UPSA celebrates 16th congregation as Prof. Abednego F.O Amartey ends his term in office

The University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) has announced that the Vice Chancellor Professor Abednego F.O Amartey second term and final term will end om 31st December, 2024 as Prof. John Kwaku Mensah Mawutor, Pro Vice Chancellor will take over the respected position.

Prof. Koryoe Amin Wright also retires from her position as University Registrar on 1st April, 2024 upon reaching the compulsory retirement age as Mrs. Lorraine B. Gyan stepping in as the new Registrar.

Both have served with dedication, hardwork and commitment in their respective positions in academia and administration with a sound track record that has propel UPSA to greater heights.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abednego Amartey was speaking at the first session of the 16th congregation of UPSA graduands from the Law School, Faculty of Information Technology and Communications Studies.

The University was graduating a total of 5,274 students at four out of five sessions on 28th October and 1st of November, 2024 comprising of 906 post graduates, 3,711 under graduates and 630 diploma students.

At the ceremony, UPSA Law School and the Faculty of Information Technology and Communication Studies presented 1,473 students for graduation and out of the number, the Law School presented 212 Second Class Upper, 78 Second Class Lower, 89 Third and 23 Pass.

The Faculty of Technology and Communications Studies in this regard will be graduating a total of 1,261, including 946 undergraduates, 315 diploma students with undergraduate level with 12 students obtaining First Class, 227 Second Class Upper, 359 Second Class Lower, 297 Third Class with 51 Pass as 12 of the diploma students obtained distinction while 156 obtained Credit and 147 had Pass.

He said UPSA in 2024/2025 academic year have introduced four new programmes and includes Master of Science in Information Systems, Master of Philosophy in Information Systems, Doctor of Philosophy in Finance, adding that GTEC have also approved Doctor of Philosophy in Interdisciplinary

Studies, Logistics and Transport Management.

Touching on academic rankings, the Vice-Chancellor said the university was ranked 4th Locally and have also penetrated the global ranking between 801 and 1000.

For her part, Her Ladyship, Chief Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Sackey Torkornoo urged graduates to set up a reading time table and maximize their time judiciously, adding that the gesture prepares them adequately for their jobs.
