Woes of Black Stars: The current players are more committed at their clubs than the national team – Legendary Frimpong Manso
Former Ghanaian international and head coach of Bibiani Gold Stars, Frimpong Manso has added his voice about the level of commitment among current Black Stars players compared to their dedication to their club sides.
Frimpong Manso, who represented the Black Stars in the 1990s speaking with Tony Muntana on Extra Time Sports noted that many players seem to prioritize their club obligations over their national duties. This observation is not entirely new, as it reflects a growing trend where players are often seen investing more energy and focus into their clubs, especially given the financial incentives and career advancements that club football can offer.
He emphasized that while players should naturally aspire to excel at their clubs, the same level of dedication is crucial when representing their country. He pointed out that national teams thrive on the passion and commitment of their players, suggesting that a disconnect may exist when players wear the national jersey.
By addressing these commitment concerns and ensuring that players understand the importance of their roles on the international stage, Ghana can aim to restore its reputation as a powerhouse in African football according to the former Black Stars defender.
