I know my level – erstwhile president John Mahama rejects Bawumia debate

The concept of holding a debate with Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has been categorically rejected by former President and presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama.

Mahama made a daring comment when he said he didn’t think it was necessary to “elevate Bawumia to his level” through debate.

Mahama underlined, speaking to a group, “He should go and debate the people of Ghana and apologize to them.” My level is known to me.

Mahama also brought up Dr. Bawumia’s remarks made prior to the 2016 general election, in which he suggested that the NPP’s then-candidate, Mr. Akufo-Addo, debate the people of Ghana instead.

His remarks are interpreted as a pointed criticism of the Vice President’s work, especially with regard to the nation’s economic management, which Mahama has frequently questioned.

The NPP’s long-standing request has been rejected by Mahama’s refusal to debate Bawumia since it appears that the former president is more interested in interacting with voters directly than in squabbling with his political opponent.

Known for his economic rhetoric, Bawumia has not yet responded to Mahama’s statements.

The remarks made by the NDC candidate might determine the course of the fierce political struggle that precedes the general elections in 2024.

The goal of both parties is to win over voters who are becoming more and more concerned with social welfare, government, and the health of the economy.
