Dr. Bawumia Will Ensure Responsible Mining Practices to Safeguard the Environment – NAPO Assures Ghanaians
Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh (NAPO), the Vice Presidential Candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has assured Ghanaians that under Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s leadership, mining will be conducted responsibly to protect the country’s environment. Addressing a congregation in the Manso Adubia constituency, NAPO expressed concerns over the current state of mining in Ghana, which has led to the destruction of forests and contamination of major rivers, affecting communities that rely on these natural resources.
NAPO emphasized the need for mining activities to provide optimal value to local communities where mineral deposits are located. He highlighted Dr. Bawumia’s vision to ensure that the benefits of Ghana’s resources remain within the country, rather than allowing foreign companies to take the majority of the proceeds overseas.
Furthermore, NAPO revealed that Dr. Bawumia plans to establish a dedicated bank to support small-scale miners. This financial institution will provide miners with access to the right equipment, minimizing environmental destruction, particularly the contamination of rivers. In addition, miners will receive the necessary education and training on safe, sustainable mining practices, ensuring long-term protection of the environment while maximizing economic benefits for the local communities.
