Bishop Bowers School Launches Golden Jubilee

Bishop Bowers School has officially launched its 50th anniversary celebration at the premises of the school located at Laterbiokorshie in Accra.
The anniversary launch was on the theme, “50 years of holistic Catholic education, the story of Bishop Bowers School” and it was graced by the alumni, past and present head teachers, some clergy of the Catholic Archdiocese of Accra, reverend sisters together with some parents of the school.
At the launch ceremony, the local manager of the school, Rev. Fr Charles Francis Ackon, with support from other the dignitaries unveiled the anniversary cloth, logo and cut the anniversary cake while some invited guests including old students popped the champagne.
A candlelight parade, a cleanup operation, a health walk and screening, an interschool quiz competition among sister schools, dinner, a big durbar, and an appreciation mass are some of the events planned for the Bishop Bowers’ golden jubilee.
During the launch, the chairman of the Archdiocesan Education Committee (AEC), Very Rev. Fr. George Appah, who was the guest speaker, stated that character development was the fundamental goal of a holistic education, rather than only intellectual growth.
He added that the core objective of a holistic education was to churn out persons with a strong and upright character, adding that it was vital in moulding learners who did not only thrive academically but also create beneficial effect on the world around them.
As a result, he praised Bishop Bowers School for consistently following its main mission of educating kids for social responsibility, spiritual development, and academic success.
On behalf of the Metropolitan Archbishop of Accra, Most Rev. John Bonaventure Kwofie, CSSp, the Chancellor of the Catholic Archdiocese of Accra, Very Rev. Fr. Raymond Osei Tutu, commended the institution for its half-century-long dedication to advancing a comprehensive Catholic education.
Sister Matilda Quist SSpS, the school’s headmistress, recapped the events leading up to the institution’s founding and mentioned that the Missionary Sisters Servants of the Holy Spirit (SpS) had established the school and that its leaders had been capable and vivacious, as well as assistant headmistresses who had laid a strong foundation for the institution’s success.
She therefore expressed her gratitude to parents, graduates, and present and former staff members for their outstanding contributions to the school throughout the years.
The Chief Finance Officer of MTN, Antionette Kwofie, an alumnus of the school, who was the chairperson for the occasion, urged old students to give back to the school by funding the activities of the school or incorporating initiatives and driving innovation to prepare students for the world of work.
During the event, the 2012 year group donated seven water dispensers to the school as school children thrilled invited guests with a spectacular display of performances including song ministrations, cultural and cadet displays, among others.
