Election 2024: Live broadcast of IPAC meeting will ensure transparency – Omane Boamah
Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, the Director of Elections and IT for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has urged the Electoral Commission (EC) to allow live coverage of the Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting scheduled for Tuesday, October 1.
In a Facebook post on Monday, September 30, Dr. Boamah stressed that broadcasting the meeting live would promote transparency and accountability in the electoral process. He believes that allowing Ghanaians to follow the discussions in real-time will help build trust in the preparations for the 2024 elections and give citizens a clearer understanding of the decisions that will shape the electoral landscape.
Dr. Boamah further explained that live coverage would enable political parties to communicate their concerns and positions directly to the public, fostering a more inclusive dialogue among stakeholders.
He highlighted the ongoing dispute between the NDC and the EC regarding the 2024 voters register and argued that live coverage of the IPAC meeting would provide transparency on the EC’s handling of errors in the register.
“The live broadcast will provide Ghanaians with real-time and unbiased information on the state of the 2024 voters register after the EC’s so-called self-audit or autocorrection of their avoidable (criminal) errors and mistakes,” Dr. Boamah posted.
He added that live media coverage would eliminate the risk of misinformation or misrepresentation after the meeting, ensuring that all parties are held accountable for their statements and actions.
