Baba Yara Stadium 70% ready for Ghana vs Sudan – NSA
The Baba Yara Sports Stadium is 70% ready to host Ghana’s encounter against Sudan on matchday 3 of the 2025 AFCON Qualifiers in October, according to confirmation from the National Sports Authority (NSA).
This was disclosed on Wednesday, September 25, during the NSA’s presentation before the Parliamentary Select Committee for Youth, Sports, and Culture.
The NSA took advantage of the committee’s investigation of Ghana’s recent sports downturn to raise a number of issues, including the money made from renting the stadium for religious gatherings.
The NSA has defended the technique as a means of making money, despite criticism from the public.
Seth Panwum, the chairman of the NSA Board, clarified that the stadium’s pitch is undergoing significant repairs and will probably be finished by the next game.
Although he admitted that the work is moving very swiftly, he made it clear that CAF (Confederation of African Football) officials will make the final determination.
Panwum also emphasized the necessity of more money to sustain stadium repair and maintenance.
He revealed that he is in talks with the Finance Minister to obtain emergency financing to preserve the field and guarantee that it is ready for use in future games.
“CAF said we should do a major work on the pitch which we have admitted and we are doing. Even as of now, if they even come back, per the speed rate of the work that we have done, they can pass us to even use it for the next game.
But per their rules, we need to give them the briefing so that subsequently we can write to them again to come and relook at the pitch and assess it and give us the green light. I must say it’s very unfortunate that we have gotten here.”
