Bilbao is ambitious and wants to play in Europe- Inaki Williams after scoring season’s debut goal

Black Stars forward has scored his first goal of the 2024-2025 season after getting on the scoresheet in Athletic Bilbao’s 2-0 win over Leganes away from home at the Estadio Municipal de Butarque.

Williams scored Bilbao’s second goal in the 75th minute when he run on to meet a sweeping pass from the right side from Andoni Gorosabel and slotted the ball into the net.

The goal represents an uptick in form for Williams since featuring for Ghana against Angola and Niger in the 2025 AFCON qualifiers during the international break.

Prior to taking on Leganes, Williams bagged a hat-trick of assists in Bilbao’s win over Las Palmas to become the first player in La Liga to get three assists in the same game since 2005.

Speaking on his debut goal for the season, Williams spoke about Bilbao’s European ambitions as it ranks fifth in the standings at the time of writing.

“Incredible. This team doesn’t have a ceiling. We don’t have to look at our rivals, we are ambitious because we want to be in Europe. I think the team has played a great game; maybe not lucid at times we’ve played two games away from home in a row…I think we are in good shape for everything that is to come.”
