YADD Ghana Urges Reforms, Limits on Presidential Power

The Youth Alliance for Democratic Development (YADD) Ghana has called for constitutional reforms to limit the president’s power in appointing public officers, particularly anti-corruption and independent bodies.

At a press conference, Executive Director James Kofi Narteu Nitse emphasized the need for reforms, citing loopholes in the 1992 constitution hindering effective governance and development.

YADD Ghana’s key advocacy points include:

Limiting presidential powers in appointments
Curbing corruption
Depoliticizing the police
Empowering Parliament for non-partisan MMDCE elections

Nitse stressed the importance of a free, transparent, and fair election, urging the Electoral Commission to address credibility issues raised by the NDC.

YADD Ghana aims to support the party committed to reviewing the constitution by 2025 through parliamentary and stakeholder discussions.
