NLA, CLAAG Partner to Sanitize Lotto Industry
The National Lottery Authority (NLA) and the Concerned Lotto Agents Association of Ghana (CLAAG) have joined forces to regulate the lottery sector, ensuring transparency and fairness.
In a ceremony held at the NLA headquarters, Director-General Samuel Awuku and CLAAG Executive Secretary Kwaku Duah-Tawiah officially launched the partnership.
According to Mr. Awuku, the collaboration aims to identify compliant lotto operators, allowing them to operate without interference. “Registration with CLAAG is crucial,” he emphasized. “It will help us distinguish between genuine and fake operators.”
Mr. Duah-Tawiah outlined the key objectives of the registration project. “We seek to level the playing field, enhance security, boost revenue for national development, and professionalize the sector through training opportunities.”
The partnership is expected to protect lotto agents’ rights, promote compliance with the law, and strengthen the industry through data-driven planning.
When asked about taxation, Mr. Awuku revealed that the NLA has begun collecting taxes from the gaming and betting sectors. “We’ll enforce tax regulations on lottery operators soon,” he added.
CLAAG’s registration project is seen as a significant step towards sanitizing Ghana’s lottery industry.
