We won’t allow EC to collude with NPP to rig December polls – Armah Buah

The Deputy Minority Leader of Parliament, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, has stated that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) will not permit the Electoral Commission (EC) to collaborate with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to manipulate the upcoming general elections and undermine Ghana’s democracy with a fraudulent voter register.

Speaking at the NDC’s ‘Enough is Enough’ demonstration against the EC in Sekondi-Takoradi, Buah emphasized the NDC’s call for the EC to address concerns raised by the parties to ensure a credible election.

“We want to safeguard our democracy. This call is for the peace and stability of our country. We know that the electoral commission is colluding with the NPP, so we are doing everything to stop it. We know that the register is not credible and we have asked for an independent audit. We think that is the only way to assure the people of Ghana of a credible register that will lead to transparent and credible elections,” he said.

The Western Regional NDC Chairman, Nana Toku, also expressed determination to continue their efforts until their concerns are addressed.

“The EC has presented a register which is not credible to the people of this country and we are saying that, until that register is corrected, we will not rest until they do so. Enough is enough for us and we want peace in this country and therefore they should do the right thing. If they do not respond to it, there will be another action,” he said.

The Western Regional NDC demonstration against the EC, which was well-attended, included Dr. Sipa Yankey, former CEO of Ghana National Gas Company, and had about 800 police personnel deployed to ensure security. The demonstrators walked from the Takoradi Mall through Effia-Kuma to Sekondi before presenting their petition at the EC office.

They carried placards that read: “Rigged Register”, “Bias EC, Audit the Register”, “EC Banza“, “Clergy; silence is complicity. Speak Truth to Power.”
