UPSA host QS Africa Forum to leverage higher education on the continent


The University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) has hosted the first ever Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) Africa Forum 2024 aimed at fostering innovation, entrepreneurship and technology among the youth.

The 2 day event was organized by QS Africa in collaboration with UPSA under the theme, ” Empowering Africa’s Youth: Integrating Entrepreneurship, Future Skills and AI/ Technology In Education For A Sustainable Future”.

The QS Africa Forum created a platform for students and other stakeholders in the educational space to discuss, share and exchange ideas to shape the future of higher education on the continent.

In attendance where a cross section of students, Vice Chancellors , Heads of tertiary institutions, academics policy makers, industry leaders, civil societies , researchers and innovators.

Speaking at opening ceremony in Accra, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Abednego F.O. Amartey said UPSA was the first university in the country to host the prestigious event organized by QS Africa, adding that the university is committed in empowering the youth of Ghana and Africa for a sustainable future.

” UPSA acknowledges that the future of Africa lies in the hands of the youth as knowledge and requisite skills they have acquired must help sustainable development on the continent, ” he added.

According to him, teaching and learning at UPSA are designed to foster critical thinking, creativity and a deeper understanding of the interconnection of economic, social and environmental sustainability which empowers students to become agents of positive change in communities.

In an address, the Forum Chairperson and Principal Consultant of Quacquarelli Symonds, Madam Veronica Omeni said the forum will shape the Africa Continent with much emphasis on education which is the heart of development.

” Empowering the youth is a shared responsibility and as educators, We must help build an environment that will unearth the potentials of the youth and prepares them for a sustainable future,” she said.

Madam Omeni however urged students to reflect on the theme of the forum and explained that it will challenge stakeholders commit to Integrating entrepreneurship, future skills, AI and technology into the continent educational institutions.
