You kept quiet about the DKM issue & spread false information about JDM & Lordina Mahama” – Adel Umar fires back at NPP

In a heated discussion on Kessben Maakye moderated by Mr. Speaker, members of the NPP and NDC communications teams exchanged their opinions on the long-standing controversy surrounding DKM Micro Finance Company in Sunyani.

The debate, which highlighted deep-seated political tensions, centered on the ownership and accountability of the financial scandal that has left many Ghanaians out of pocket.

Awal Mohammed, representing the NPP, made his submission first, defending his party’s stance. However, it was the response from Adel Umar, a member of the NDC’s communications team, that sparked significant attention.

Umar directly challenged the NPP, pointing out the hypocrisy he perceives in their handling of the DKM issue.

“Awal has acknowledged that the owner of DKM is a member of the NPP,” Mr. Adel Umar began, setting the tone for his argument.

He went on to assert that the NDC has always been open to working with anyone, regardless of political affiliation.

However, he pointed out that when DKM’s owner, an alleged NPP member, sought a license during the NDC’s administration, the NPP did not hesitate to loudly accuse former President John Mahama and his wife, Lordina, of owning the company and misappropriating funds.

“That’s the point we’re addressing,” Mr. Adel Umar stated emphatically. “What you’re saying is out of context. You were accusing John Mahama and his wife, Lordina, of owning the company, while knowing full well that the owner is one of your own.”

Mr. Adel Umar further criticized the NPP for remaining silent on the true ownership of DKM while allowing false information to spread.

“You kept quiet about this and spread false information that John Mahama and Lordina were spending people’s money. We’ve now come to realize that the man is indeed affiliated with your party,” Umar declared, adding to the mounting tension.

Mr.Adel Umar also questioned the NPP’s fulfillment of their promises to the victims of the DKM scandal.

“When you promised the people that if you came into power, you would retrieve their money, have you fulfilled that promise?” he asked, highlighting the continued suffering of those affected by the financial collapse.

In a brief interjection, Mr. Speaker noted that the DKM owner had only participated in the campaign in the Nandom Constituency, but Umar quickly dismissed this as irrelevant to his main point.

“That’s not the issue,” he responded. “My argument is that if someone is known for deviant behavior, and you see the President or Vice President associating with him, you should ask questions.

This is a man who has stolen people’s money. So today, if there’s evidence that this man is affiliated with the NPP, and you admit that he is, the simplest thing you can do is to apologize to the Vice President. That would be the wise course of action.”
