IPR- Ghana Launches UEW Student Chapter

The Department of Strategic Communication at the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), in collaboration with the Institute of Public Relations Ghana (IPR Ghana), successfully launched the IPR-UEW Student Chapter. The event, held at the North Assembly Hall, saw the participation of esteemed speakers and public relations experts.

Ms. Esther Cobbah, President of IPR Ghana, and CEO of STRATCOMM Africa served as the keynote speaker. In her address, she urged the students to embrace leadership today, not tomorrow, and to challenge themselves to explore diverse avenues rather than limiting themselves to a single path. She emphasized the importance of tapping into the expertise of their lecturers, recognizing that the university environment presents unique challenges, and a certificate alone will not guarantee success. Ms. Cobbah concluded by admonishing the students to prioritize integrity and avoid being “nobody’s dustbin,” emphasizing that PR professionals facilitate business rather than engaging in personal matters.

Adding to the inspiring message, Kenyan Public Relations Association and African Public Relations Association (AFPRA) president, Arik Karani, provided the students with three key principles: Reimagine, Reposition, and Reenforce, underscoring the importance of innovative thinking, strategic positioning, and consistent efforts in the field of public relations.

The official induction of the student chapter was a grand affair, with Ms. Esther Cobbah inducting the members and swearing in the chapter’s executive team.

Ms. Ivy Heward- Mills, IPR Ghana Student Chapter Coordinator, delivered a brief speech, encouraging the newly inducted members to embrace opportunities, leverage them effectively, and be proud of their achievements.

In closing remarks, Prof. Albert Agbesi Wornyo, Dean of the School of Communication and Media Studies, urged the IPR Ghana UEW Student Chapter executives to uphold integrity, honesty, and transparency in their endeavors.
