Government secures 1 million dollar insurance premium to safeguard small holder farmers against drought

Government has secured a one million dollar insurance premium as part of a broader strategy to build resilience against future droughts. This premium is tied to a five million dollar payout policy aimed at supporting small holder farmers.

The initiative was announced by the Minister of Finance, Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam, during the monthly media briefing in Accra.

He emphasized that the policy is a crucial component of the government’s financial strategy to mitigate food insecurity and bolster relief efforts in the event of future dry spells.

This measure follows a recent dry spell that affected eight regions across the country, heightening concerns about a potential food shortage and its economic repercussions.

Dr. Amin Adam also announced the establishment of a five million dollar endowment fund to support the operationalization of the digital hub, which is set to be completed by the end of November.

He expressed confidence that this initiative will play a pivotal role in securing the future of the nation’s youth within the digital economy.

Present at the programme was the Minister for Food and Agriculture, Hon. Bryan Acheampong(MP), Deputy Minister for Finance, Hon. Dr. Alex Ampaabeng, Deputy Minister for Information, Hon. Sylvester Tetteh (MP), Chief Director, Ms. Eva Mends and Other Directors and Staff from the Ministry of Finance.
