John Dumelo apologises for comment about death of Lydia Seyram Alhassan’s husband
During the Community Manifesto on TV3’s New Day on Wednesday, August 28, John Dumelo while speaking about his vision and policies for the Ayawaso West-Wuogon constituency was booed by the NPP supporters who chanted V8.
This was in reference to the scandal about John Dumelo acquiring a state-owned Toyota Landcruiser V8 which was later retrieved by National Security Operatives in 2017.
The actor cum politician who got infuriated by the comment from the NPP supporters in turn said that due to the actions of the NPP supporters, he could also suggest that Lydia Seyram Alhassan, MP for Ayawaso West-Wuogon killed her husband to occupy the seat.
Following a backlash and reflection of his statement, John Dumleo has publicly apologised for his comment in a tweet via X.
He explained that his comment was in response to false allegations about his mother’s death by the NPP supporters and attacks on his personality.
“I apologize and unreservedly retract my previous comments. I extend my sincere and unconditional apologies to Hon. Lydia Alhassan for my remarks during the Media General public engagement (Community Manifesto) concerning the death of her husband. To everyone who knows me, both in my private life and political activities, it is clear that those statements do not reflect my values or what I stand for.
“My comments were in response to personal attacks by supporters of the honorable minister, including false allegations regarding my mother’s death. However, I recognize that my reaction was inappropriate,” he tweeted.
