Empowering Young Women: Kayayei Empowerment Programme Graduates 600 Beneficiaries

In a colourful ceremony held at the Kayayei Empowerment Center in Madina, Accra, 600 young women celebrated their graduation from the third cohort of the Kayayei Empowerment Programme. This visionary initiative, led by Vice President Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, aims to equip marginalized young women with life-changing skills, empowering them to break free from the dangers of street life and reclaim their dignity.

A Comprehensive Training Programme

The six-month training programme focused on six specialized skill areas: soap and detergent making, baking, beads and jewelry, décor, pedicure and manicure, and make-up artistry. Each beneficiary received comprehensive training, mentorship, and guidance, ensuring they acquired the necessary skills to start their own businesses.

Starter Packs and Stipends: Empowering Beneficiaries

During the graduation ceremony, each beneficiary received a starter pack, complete with essential tools and equipment to launch their entrepreneurial journey. Additionally, the programme fulfilled its promise to provide each beneficiary with a GHC 1,000 stipend, paying the outstanding GHC 500 in addition to the initial GHC 500 provided at the beginning of the training.

A Beacon of Hope

The Kayayei Empowerment Programme serves as a beacon of hope for young women who have been marginalized and excluded from mainstream society. By providing them with vocational skills, dignity, and economic empowerment, the programme enables them to shape their own destinies and inspire others facing similar challenges.

Partnerships and Collaborations

The success of the Kayayei Empowerment Programme is a testament to the power of partnerships and collaborations. The National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Plan (NEIP), Office of the Vice President, Ghana Enterprise Agency (GEA), Youth Employment Agency (YEA), Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund), and Commission for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (CTVET) have all played critical roles in supporting the programme.

A Promise of Continuation

As the third cohort of beneficiaries graduates, preparations are underway to admit the next cohort of young women. The programme’s continuation is a promise of hope for many more marginalized young women, offering them a chance to transform their lives and become entrepreneurs, leaders, and change-makers.

Empowering Young Women, Empowering Ghana

The Kayayei Empowerment Programme is more than just a training initiative – it’s a movement. By empowering young women, we empower Ghana. We empower a generation of leaders, entrepreneurs, and change-makers who will shape the country’s future. As we celebrate the graduation of 600 beneficiaries, we look forward to the countless success stories that will emerge from this programme.
