Otumfuo strips three chiefs of titles in bold crackdown on galamsey

In a decisive move, Otumfuo Osei Tutu ll, the Asantehene, has destooled the Gyaasihene, Akyeamehene, and Baamuhene of Sabronum, removing them from their positions during the Asanteman Council meeting on Monday, August 26, 2024, at Manhyia Palace.

This action comes as a result of their involvement in illegal mining, known locally as ‘galamsey,’ which has plagued the region.

The Asantehene’s decision underscores a zero-tolerance stance on activities that threaten the environment and the well-being of the Asante kingdom. With a new Sabronum Manhene, Kofi Asante, now in place, the community looks to a future free from the damaging effects of galamsey.
