Fire at Parliament House under control

The Ghana National Fire Service officers have extinguished the entire fire that had taken over a room at the 12-story Job 600 building at the Parliament House in Accra.

The GNFS said they might be able to retrieve some of the books and records that were destroyed in the impacted room.

ACFO 1 Roberta Agrey Ghanson, the Greater Accra Regional Commander of the Fire Service, stated that the fire units were at the scene of the incident in no more than five minutes after the GNFS received a distress call at approximately 9:30 am.

The Regional Commander told the reporters that even if the fire was contained, personnel should not enter it just yet.

She also mentioned how smokey the rooms were, and she claimed that an investigation will start to find out what caused the fire.

The Government Assurance Committee was meeting with Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, the Minister of Works and Housing, at the time of the evacuation.
