CSCAfCFTA Engages Peasant Farmers Association of Ghana to Boost Economic Integration
The Civil Society Coalition for African Continental Free Trade Area (CSCAfCFTA) has taken a significant step towards integrating peasant farmers in Ghana into the continental advocacy for economic integration. A delegation from CSCAfCFTA, led by CEO Dr. Emmanuel V. Brown, met with the executive of the Peasant Farmers Association of Ghana (PFAG) to explore ways to harness the benefits of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
Promoting Intra-African Trade
Dr. Brown emphasized the importance of promoting intra-African trade, citing the European model as a benchmark. He stressed that removing trade barriers and achieving economic independence for African states is crucial. The visit aimed to sensitize and advocate for the inclusion of all stakeholders, ensuring no one is left behind in the AfCFTA operations.

The CSCAfCFTA CEO highlighted the need to position peasant farmers to optimize AfCFTA benefits. He underscored the secretariat’s presence in Ghana as an opportunity for local farmers to tap into the continental market.

Bismark Owusu Nortey, Acting CEO of PFAG, expressed his delight at the collaboration, acknowledging the critical role of trade in farmers’ growth. He noted that while AfCFTA presents numerous benefits, addressing potential challenges is essential to ensure Ghanaian farmers’ success.
