Bubune Biana Bottozah emerges as winner of 2024 Ms. Geek Ghana competition
A 21-year-old level 300 student from the University of Mines and Technology (UMaT) Tarkwa in the Western Region has emerged as the overall winner of Ms. Geek Ghana competition in Accra.
The competition seeks to empower young girls in the technology space by supporting them to unearth and harness their potentials through innovation and creativity.
It would be called that the Ministry of Communication and Digitalization launched the Miss Geek Ghana 2024 competition aimed at empowering young girls to exhibit their smart ideas and concepts to help address challenges in the technology sector.
The competition witnessed 66 applications from girls age 13 to 21 with passion in technology as 10 finalists were challenged to present creative and innovation project such as e-waste, healthcare solutions among others.
Other participants include Elorm Richardson’s ” E-Waste Evolution”, Leticia Makafui Ahiamadzi’ environmental risk management system and Hannabel Opokuwaa Nyarko ” Mother Care connect” a mobile app supporting maternal and child health.
Speaking at the program, the Minister of Communications and Digitalization, Mrs. Ursula Owusu – Ekuful said the country is well positioned in the digital revolution and the ministry is putting in place the needed structures to leverage young girls to have a deep stake in the digital sector which is a fundamental necessity.
She however highlighted government commitment to the project as enshrined in the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals 5 and explain that it is a move to achieve gender equality for girls and women.
The Minister thus commended the participants for a good work done, saying government will partner such projects to help address socio-economic challenges in the fields of technology for the growth and development of the country.
In a related development, Bubune Biana Bottozah was presented with a cash price with fully paid trip to participate in the Miss Geek 2025 African contest.
she expressed her profound gratitude to the Ministry of Communication and the Digitalization particularly Ursula Owusu – Ekuful for empowering young girls to take up the challenge in the technology sector.
