Founders Day falls on Sunday: Akufo Addo declares Monday 5 August as Public Holiday
Monday, August 5, 2024, has been declared a public holiday by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
The decision came about as a result of Founders’ Day, which is a statutory public holiday on Sunday, August 4, 2024, according to a statement issued by Interior Minister Henry Quartey.
“Since Founders’ Day falls on a Sunday this year, the President has issued an Executive Instrument (E.I) in accordance with Section 2 of the Public Holidays and Commemorative Days Act (Act 601), declaring Monday, 5th August 2024, as an additional public holiday.
The general public has been advised to observe this holiday nationwide.”
Founders Day was once observed to honor Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah’s accomplishments. It was termed “Founder’s Day” with the letter “S” following an apostrophe.
