Komenda Sugar Factory to be Leased to West African Agro Limited in Effort to Revitalize Operations

The Minister for Trade and Industry and Member of Parliament for Adansi Asokwa, Hon. Kobina Tahir Hammond, has described the Komenda Sugar Factory as an “albatross” around the neck of the country due to its underutilization and financial burden. In a bid to turn things around, the government has announced plans to lease the factory to West African Agro Limited, an India-based firm, for a renewable term of 15 to 20 years.

During a visit to the Komenda Sugar Factory in the Central Region, accompanied by leaders from West African Agro Limited, Hon. Hammond revealed that this strategic partnership aims to revitalize the factory’s operations and ensure it can meet the growing domestic demand for sugar. The Minister emphasized that this initiative is part of a broader effort to boost the local sugar industry and create jobs in the region.
