UPSA Law School honours Dr. S.K.B. Asante for immense contribution to rule of law and academia

This year’s Lifetime Achievement in Law Award has been conferred on Nana Dr. S.K.B. Asante, Paramount Chief of Ashanti Asokore and former Director, United Nations Center on Traditional Corporation in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the development of the rule of law and academia.

He is also a distinguished public servant at the national and international space, academic, a scholar and a traditional ruler.

The event was organised by the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) Law School in partnership with Bentsi- Enchill Letsa &Ankomah and forms part of the 2024 edition of its honorific lecture and award under the theme, “Celebrating a Legacy of Service and Excellence”.

The programme seeks to recognised the lifetime achievement and works of Nana Dr. SKB Asante and in attendance include, Her Ladyship Justice Gertrude Torkonoo, The Chief Justice, Hon. Godfred Yeboah Dame, Attorney General, Dr. Kofi Kodua Sarpong, Chancellor UPSA, Prof. Kofi Abotsi, Dean, USPA Law School, Prof. Mike Aaron Ocquaye for Speaker of Parliament among others.

Speaking at the program, Nana Dr. SKB Asante expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the staff and management of UPSA Law School for conferring the honour on him and said he is delighted in receiving the prestigious award saying, he is deeply touched by the cross section of the public for gracing the occasion.

The Paramount of Asante Asokore said his doctoral law program at Yale Law School exposed him into the critical importance of examining the relationship between law and other disciplines expounded by eminent scholars of international repute.

Giving an insight on the constitutional review and reforms, he said current international experiences indicates and demonstrates that crafting a perfect constitution without addressing the basic needs of the people will ultimately undermine the stability of the constitutional order.

He however advised students not to allow limitation to overcome their career development and said ambition can be achieved by the Grace of God and them not consider setbacks as an impediment to success but accept it as opportunities for greater achievement adding that UPSA Law School is emerging as an enviable and dynamic institution of learning.

In a speech read on his behalf, by the Attorney General, Godfred Yeboah Dame, President Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo said Nana Dr. S.K.B. is a statesman and have demonstrated a higher commitment in serving the country in different capacities of his public life.

He stated that his contribution to the legal space have added value to the country’s legal framework and urged Ghanaians to emulate the works of Dr. S.K.B. as part of the effort to strengthen democratic institutions.

For his part, the Dean of UPSA Law School, Prof. Kofi Abotsi said Dr. SKB Asante attributes calls for a recognition of his dedication to service hence UPSA Law School confers the 2024 lifetime achievement award on him.

In her remarks, Her Ladyship, Justice Gertrude Torkonoo said the occasion will help celebrate his contribution to legal academia for his work demonstrates excellence in every working endeavour as well as dedication to public service.
