Free Annual Health Check-Up Programme Launched to Revolutionize Health Delivery in Ghana

In a groundbreaking move to enhance health delivery and promote preventive healthcare, the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) has partnered with the Ghana Health Service and other stakeholders to launch a Free Annual Health Check-Up (AHC) initiative. This pioneering program aims to provide comprehensive health screening services to all Ghanaian citizens, ensuring early detection and timely treatment of potential health issues.

A Milestone in Healthcare

Speaking at the official launch ceremony on Monday, July 29, 2024, in Accra, Dr. Dacosta Aboagye, Chief Executive Officer of NHIS, expressed his delight in introducing this program, which embodies the organization’s commitment to promoting preventive healthcare and ensuring access to essential health services for all. “We are thrilled to launch this initiative, which marks a significant milestone in our quest to enhance health delivery and improve the well-being of every Ghanaian,” he said.

Comprehensive Health Screening Services

The first phase of the Free Annual Health Check-Up initiative will offer a range of services, including:

  1. Annual blood pressure check
  2. Annual blood sugar check
  3. Annual Body Mass Index (BMI) check (height and weight)
  4. Counseling
  5. Referral when needed

These services will be provided at designated public and private health facilities nationwide, ensuring accessibility for everyone, regardless of location or socioeconomic status.

Sustainability and Partnership

Dr. Patrick Kuma Aboagye, Director General of the Ghana Health Service, outlined measures for the sustainability of the initiative and assured continued partnership to provide quality healthcare for Ghanaians. “We are committed to working together to ensure the success of this program and provide the best possible healthcare services to our citizens,” he said.

Eligibility and Accessibility

The program is open to all citizens covered under the NHIS and anyone who possesses the Ghana Card. This ensures that everyone has access to these essential health services, regardless of their location or social economic status.
