2 perished in a Fuel tanker accident on Kumasi-Accra Highway
Following an accident at Asiakwa Junction on Monday involving a petrol tanker traveling from Accra to Kumasi, two persons, including a taxi driver, have been declared dead.
The tanker apparently had a brake malfunction as it approached the Asiakwa Junction on the main Accra-Kumasi Highway.
The truck rolled onto the lane intended for vehicles heading toward Accra in an effort to manage the situation.
As the taxi approached the intersection, the rolling tanker attempted to be avoided, but the driver ended up under it.
The tanker’s spilled fuel caught fire in a matter of seconds, completely destroying the tanker and the taxi.
Luckily, the two occupants of the cab were able to flee the scene of the crash before the car caught fire.
The burning tanker was also struck by a truck that was approaching the Pacific gasoline station from Asiakwa Junction without following the rules of the road.
