Ga Dangme Group and Coalition La Association to embark on demonstration on 30th July over rapid sale of lands to private developers
The Coalition of La Association(COLA) as a matter of urgency has called on government to release all lands under the jurisdiction of La stool and the La Traditional Council.
The two bodies in these regard are making fervent preparations to embark on series of demonstration to kick start on Tuesday, July 30th 2024 to drive home their displeasure and demands of all affected transactions on land issues.
At a news conference in La, a suburb of Accra, the Convener of the Coalition, Mr. Jeffery Tetteh said the rapid manner in which the lands are sold to private estate developers and politicians are very worrying to the La Traditional Authorities
He made reference to parcels of lands around the Ghana Prisons Service which is being negotiated to be given to a private developer and have cautioned state authorities to halt the sale of the land without the consent of the La people.
On the Trade Fair redevelopment plan, as well as the Labadi Beach and the La Palm Royal Beach Hotel the lands were released to government and yet no compensation have been paid and explained that before the commencement of any project, due diligence must be applied for the necessary action be done on both side of the parties.
Throwing more light on the Kpletso land, he said the Chiefs and people of La have expressed their gratitude to government for timely releasing the land to the people of land and hinted that a search at the Lands Commission indicates that the said land belongs to the La stool
He said the Coalition of the La Association is working in partnership with the Ga Dangme Coalition against injustice and therefore calling on government to engage all stakeholders in land transaction and advice that the people of La must have a stake in every land development and acquisition.
“We are calling on government to treat our Chiefs with the same level of respect it accords traditional leaders from other parts of the country and urged all to rally support for the La and Ga Dangme people in this national flight against land injustice,” he said.
