It’s important to have an issues-based debate – Dr. Palgrave Boakye Danquah calls on NDC not to run from IEA debate
The Former Deputy Minister of Agric, In charge of Fisheries, NPP, is calling on the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to step into the spotlight and engage in a national debate.
“I know the NDC might have issues with the IEA, but there should be a national platform to interview and bring a debate across. There are people who haven’t heard about Mahama and what he has to offer,” Dr. Boakye Danquah stated, pinpointing the need for every candidate to have a fair chance to present their vision to the public.
His solution? If the NDC is hesitant to collaborate with the IEA, stakeholders across the nation should come together to create an alternative platform.
“That national platform would give the person an opportunity. If the NDC doesn’t want to do this with the IEA, I would propose that we look within the stakeholders of this country and find a national platform that would give room for everyone to air their views,” he suggested.
Dr. Boakye Danquah believes it’s crucial for all electoral candidates, including Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, John Dramani Mahama, Alan Kyerematen, Nana Kwame Bediako, and others to showcase what they have to offer.
“As a patriotic Ghanaian and as a member of the NPP, it is important to have a debate, and this debate issue should not be left to chance,” he asserted.
He further emphasized that regulations should be in place to ensure no candidate can dodge these debates.
“We should put some regulations around it,” he insisted, underscoring the debates’ significance. “The debate is not a conclusion for your win or lose even though it has an impact. It enhances the electoral process.”
And his vision doesn’t stop at the presidential level. Dr. Boakye Danquah is calling for debates among parliamentary candidates as well. “Even beyond the Presidential level, we need to take it to the local level. We need to ensure that all parliamentary candidates debate on local issues,” he declared.
Dr. Palgrave Boakye Danquah’s bold challenge to the NDC is clear: it’s time to engage, debate, and let the people hear what you have to offer. Ghana’s democracy deserves nothing less.
