Car owners are taking their cars from us due to increase in fuel price – Drivers lament
Due to recent increases in fuel prices, the United Drivers Association in the Ashanti Region reports that car owners are reclaiming their assets as a result of declining sales.
The union revealed that the commercial transport industry is on the verge of collapse due to the escalating cost of fuel, making it unprofitable.
Certain gas stations are charging more for fuel now; gasoline is selling for GHS 15.10 and diesel for GHS 15.25.
The industry of commercial transportation is being impacted by the constant rise in fuel prices, while some drivers experience losses.
According to Eric Dadzie, a spokesman for the United Drivers Association – Ashanti Region, some car owners are repossessing their vehicles, which leaves many drivers without jobs.
“Many drivers have parked their cars not because of their bad attitude. The owners have taken their cars back. Maintenance is now expensive. The drivers are using their daily sales for fuel,” One Driver said.
“How much are we earning as citizens that they must consistently increase fuel prices. It’s not as if they are increasing our salaries too. I spend 500 Ghana cedis on transport monthly. Government must do something. What’s the essence of the TOR?,” a commuter added.
The drivers’ union is prepared to launch a political campaign against the Government.
On the other hand, drivers and commuters will still be affected by the increase in fuel prices until the cedi stabilizes in relation to the US dollar.
