AU Mid-Year Meetings: Ghana Hosts Key Continental Summit
The African Union (AU) Mid-Year Meetings are set to take place in Accra, Ghana from July 18th to 21st, 2024. The 45th Ordinary Session of the Executive Council and the 6th Mid-Year Coordination Meetings will bring together African leaders and stakeholders to discuss key issues and promote continental unity.
Speaking during a press briefing on the update of the meeting,Honourable Ampratwum Sarpong Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs said the Mid-Year Coordination Meeting is intended to assess the status of continental integration and coordinate efforts to accelerate the integration process.
He added that the meeting will look at areas of cooperation and establish mechanisms for regional, continental, and global cooperation in each sector or subsector.
Ghana last hosted the AU Summit in 2007, under the leadership of former President John Agyekum Kuffuor. The current President, H.E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, was then the Foreign Minister and played a key role in the successful hosting of the Summit.
The theme of the AU meetings, “Educate an African fit for the 21st century: Building Resilient Education Systems For Increased Access To Inclusive, Lifelong, Quality, Relevant Learning in Africa”, aligns with the continent’s aspirations for a more integrated and prosperous Africa.
The meetings will provide a platform for African leaders to discuss key issues, share experiences, and chart a course for the continent’s future. Ghana’s hosting of the event demonstrates its commitment to accelerating the integration agenda and promoting continental unity.
