“Since our encounter with Christ, longing burns in our hearts” – Former Liverpool striker Roberto Firminho now a pastor

BRAZIL: Former Liverpool forward Roberto Firmmino, alongside his wife Larissa Pereira, has founded a church in Maceio, Brazil, where he will serve as one of the pastors at the new evangelical church.

Firmino, who currently plays for Al Ahli in Saudi Arabia, was born in Maceio 32 years ago.

On his social media page, he shared, “Since our encounter with Christ, longing burns in our hearts… Let people know this love that has reached us. Now we have another craving and responsibility… Be Pastors after God’s heart and who cooperate with the Kingdom.”

The couple’s journey to becoming pastors began in 2020 when they converted and baptized.

Despite this new venture, Firmino has not retired from football.

He joined Al Ahli in the Saudi Pro League last year on a three-year contract and has two years remaining on his deal.

Firmino joined Liverpool in 2015 and played for the club until 2023, achieving significant success in his football career.

With Liverpool, he won the Premier League title in the 2019-2020 season, the FIFA Club World Cup in 2019, the Community Shield 2022, and reached the UEFA Champions League final in the 2021-2022 season against Real Madrid.

He also scored 111 goals and provided 75 assists in 362 matches for the club.
