Kwasi Afrifa empowers Women in Wassa Amenfi West with New Credit Union Initiative
Hon. Kwasi Afrifa, the NPP Parliamentary candidate for the Wassa Amenfi West constituency, has reinforced his dedication to the advancement and empowerment of women in the constituency.
During an event held on Sunday, May 26, 2024, in Breman to launch the Royal Afrifa Ladies, Hon. Afrifa emphasized the vital role of women’s well-being in achieving overall societal satisfaction. He vowed to utilize every possible avenue to support women’s independence and enhance their capacity to manage their households effectively.
“Empowering women is not only a moral duty but a strategic necessity for economic development. When women succeed, families flourish, and communities thrive,” he declared.
To demonstrate his commitment, Hon. Afrifa contributed GH¢10,000 as initial funding to support the women’s group.
Additionally, Hon. Afrifa expressed his intent to convert the fun club into a credit union aimed at providing financial assistance to women engaged in entrepreneurship and apprenticeships. He underscored the significant impact credit unions can have in economically empowering women, enabling them to start and expand businesses, thus contributing greatly to household and community prosperity.
“Financial independence for women leads to improved education, health, and future opportunities for their children, fostering progress across generations,” he noted.
The proposed credit union for the Royal Afrifa Ladies is anticipated to greatly benefit the local economy. It will provide women with access to financial resources, encourage savings, and promote sound financial management, ultimately leading to increased economic stability and growth in the Wassa Amenfi West constituency.
Madam Yaa Josephine, the Western Regional Women Organizer, praised the initiative and urged the fun club’s leadership to manage the credit union responsibly. “Credit unions offer access to affordable credit, savings accounts, and financial education, helping women manage their finances better and invest in income-generating activities. The cooperative nature of credit unions ensures that members participate in decision-making, fostering a sense of ownership and empowerment among women,” she remarked.
The leadership of the Royal Afrifa Ladies includes Nancy Coffie as Chairman, Peter Gyebi as Secretary, Robert Nterful as Organizer, Deborah Arhin as Porter, Collins Gyetuah as Welfare Officer, and Veronica Kwarteng as Treasurer. Hon. Afrifa, who swore in the new executives, urged them to work diligently to reclaim the Amenfi West seat from the NDC.
The event was attended by dignitaries such as Nana Ayensu, Acting Chief of Breman; Madam Yaa Josephine, Western Regional Women Organizer; Mr. Obed Asamoah, Constituency Chairman; Frank Essah, Constituency Organizer; Dorothy Ewusi, Constituency Women Organizer; Patrick Asenso Acheampong, Constituency Youth Organizer; John Osway, Amenfi West NADMO Coordinator; Vida Brogya, Deputy Women Organizer; and Nana Boakye (Apoco), former Constituency Chairman.
In other developments, Hon. Kwasi Afrifa last Friday toured Prestea Nkwanta, Mumuni, and Ayensukrom to engage with residents and understand their challenges. He is set to donate 50 bags of cement to Ayensukrom today, May 27, 2024, to aid in the construction of their clinic.
