Legendary Abdul Razak calls for re-introduction of reserve league as curtain raiser for premier league games
Ex-Asante Kotoko player and Coach, Abdul Razak has urged the Ghana Football Association to bring back the reserve league.
The 1978 African footballer of the year speaking on Kessben TV’s Extra Time Sports Show underscored that the reserve league is a fine opportunity for young players to prepare themselves and get promoted to the senior teams of various clubs.
He said it is imperative to have the reserve league played as the curtain raiser for the Ghana premier league games.
“All the teams should have reserve teams so if you don’t get in the regular team, you will be in the reserve team.
And by playing the reserve league when you are called upon to play in the regular team it does not become difficult for you.
When you play in the reserve league and you play well, the assistant coaches and others all see you and you will be recommended and then be prompted to the regular team.
It’s too much to have about 30 to 40 players all in the senior team, there should be the reserve team and a reserve league” He said.
