Amphitheatre project will be completed in 7 months – Tourism Minister Hon. Andrew Egyapa insists
Somewhere in the month of April 2023, Deputy Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mark Okraku-Mantey, cut the sod for the construction of an ultra-modern open-air amphitheatre in Kumasi.
According to him, the project which forms part of the New Patriotic Party’s manifesto to build five (5) Amphitheatres across the country, will be completed by July 2023.
“This amphitheatre is supposed to start any moment and by the end of July 2023, it should be ready. I repeat we are cutting sod in the next 10 to 15 mins and by July 2023, it should be ready,” he confirmed.
But here we are in 2024 and the NPP administration is coming to an end yet the open-air amphitheatre in Kumasi as promised remains in shambles.
However, the new Tourism and Arts minister-designate in the person of Hon. Andrew Egyapa Mercer met creatives in Kumasi on Wednesday, 8th May 2024 inside Quarshie Idun Hall at Kumasi Cultural Centre to address the impasse surrounding the amphitheatre.
And in the voice of Hon. Andrew Egyapa Mercer before the august gathering as well as the media in Kumasi, the Amphitheatre will be completed before December 2024 by any means necessary.
Hon. Andrew Egyapa Mercer reiterated that the Akufo Addo-led administration can never afford to miss the completion of the Kumasi Amphitheatre when he was quizzed by Ruthy Mummie De-nelson of Nhyira FM fame.
