Majority Caucus petitions Bagbin for Parliament to be reconvened

The Majority Caucus in Parliament has called for the House to be called back into session immediately.

The Standing Orders of Parliament, namely Article 112(3) and Order 53, permit a recall of parliament by 15 percent of the House members, as stated in a letter written by Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin.

Among the important matters the Majority Caucus is trying to get resolved in the government are the adoption of the Thirty-Fourth Report of the Appointments Committee and a motion about further funding.

The petitioners are asking for a recall of Parliament to discuss a request for a “Request for Tax Exemption for Selected Beneficiaries under the 1D1F Program” as well as a “Additional Financing Agreement between GoG and the IDA for an amount of US$150 million to finance the ongoing Greater Accra Resilient and Integrated Development (GARID) Project.”

On March 20, 2024, a Wednesday, Parliament adjourned.

Within seven days, Speaker of the House Alban Bagbin is anticipated to call a meeting of parliament.
