Felix Kyei leads saves table in Caf Champions League

The main aim of football games is goals as wins are the results celebrated. Talk of Pele, Maradona, Ronaldo Messi as they always marvel supporters with their goalscoring prowess on the field of play.

One of the unsung heroes who contribute a lot in football without proper recognition is a goalkeeper. A striker may miss different clear cut opportunities but only a goalkeeper’s mistake could make the headlines if a team looses a football game.

One goalkeeper who defied the odds with top notch performance this season in the Caf Champions League is Medeama’s Felix Kyei. The goalie of the Ghanaian champions has made 24 saves surpassing all the top goalkeepers including Ronwen Williams, Mohamed Elshanawy, Djigui Diarra and Mostafa Shobeir.

Despite going out of the competition after the group stages in Africa’s premier football competition, Kyei’s performance has made a good statistic out of his performance. His reflexes, awareness, anticipation and diving skills has contributed to his numbers.

With Felix Kyei’s 24, he is followed by Jwaneng Galaxy’s Goitseone Phoko with 23 alongside Mostafa Shobeir’s 21 and Djigui Diarra’s 18.

Medeama SC made their debut in the Caf Champions this season as they eliminated Remo Stars of Nigeria on penalties due to Felix Kyei’s saves in the prelims and matched on to eliminate Horoya AC of Guinea as they made it into the group stages in their first appearance.

After the group stages, the team amassed 4 points in Group D CR Belouizdad, Young Africans and Nady Al Ahly.
