Ejisu by-Election: I have the right to contest for the parliamentary seat – Kwesi Nyantakyi
Kwesi Nyantakyi, the former president of the Ghana Football Association, has revealed that he may run in the Ejisu by-elections on the New Patriotic Party (NPP) ticket.
He declared that he might run for office even though the Electoral Commission has not yet released the schedule for the by-election.
Although Mr. Nyantakyi stated that he thought it would be possible to run in the by-election, he also noted that the constituency was going through a grief process as a result of the passing of the late Deputy Finance Minister.
In a conversation in Kumasi during the Ashanti Regional Campaign team launch for the New Patriotic Party, Nyantakyi quietly disclosed his plan to run in the Ejisu by-election when the official schedule is made public.
“The Ejisu by-election will definitely come on, but the timetable has not been published yet so we don’t know those who want to contest. Since I come from there and I have the right to contest, at the right time, we’ll see what will happen.
“But at the moment, we are mourning the demise of a very dear son of the constituency. The Member of Parliament is a big loss to the constituency and let’s see what happens after the one week,” Nyantakyi stated.
In choosing a running partner, he urged the party’s rank and file to provide Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer, peace of mind.
“I think it is a prerogative of the flagbearer to select the running mate, so let’s leave it to him. At the right time, he’ll do that.” He added.
