Barbara Banda becomes the second most expensive female footballer in the World

The Copper Queens of Zambia captain, Barbara Banda has made a move from Chinese side Shanghai Shengli to Orlando Pride in USA for a fee of $740,000 in a 4 year deal. This makes Banda the second most expensive female footballer ever after her compatriot Rachael Kundananji.

Barbara rose to prominence with her sublime performance when she scored back to back hat-tricks against Netherlands and China in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. Barbara is the only player to score two hat-tricks in an Olympic tournament.

Barbara also participated in the recent Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand. It will be recalled, Barbara was involved in gender controversy based on her high testosterone level as she couldn’t make the Women’s AFCON squad but was later cleared by authorities.

The captain recently featured for the Copper Queens as she scored twice against the Black Queens of Ghana in the Women’s Olympic Games qualifiers for her country to progress to the next stage where they face Morocco in the final eliminator.

The Copper Queens captain signed a 4 year contract which could earn her up to $2.1m as she makes a move to Orlando Pride in USA.
