Ken Agyapong and Sylvester Tetteh nearly exchanged bI0ws in Parliament (Video)
On Tuesday, February 13, a seemingly ordinary exchange of pleasantries between Members of Parliament Kennedy Agyapong and Sylvester Tetteh took a dramatic turn, sparking tensions in Ghana’s parliament.
The altercation started when Kennedy Agyapong, the MP for Assin Central, entered the chamber and Sylvester Tetteh, the MP for Bortianor-Ngleshie-Amanfro, tried to meet him.
Parliamentary journalist Ayikwei Okine recorded Mr. Agyapong being clearly unhappy with Tetteh’s attempt at a cordial exchange.
Known for his blunt style, Agyapong was heard aggressively berating his colleague MP and giving him clear instructions to get out of the way. As the ferocity of the exchange increased, many were caught off guard by the unexpected clash.
Alexander Afenyo Markin, the deputy majority leader, acted quickly to defuse the mounting tension and stop things from getting out of control.
To keep the chamber orderly, the Effutu MP steered Sylvester Tetteh away from Kennedy Agyapong.
Parliamentary observers have been discussing the episode and many are wondering what exactly caused the two MPs to get into such a heated argument.
