Embarking on a mission to advance sustainable mining practices, Ghana’s Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Hon. Samuel A. Jinapor, is set to play a pivotal role at the Mining Indaba 2024 in Cape Town scheduled for 5th to 8th February 2024.

The journey kicks off with a panel discussion at the Ministerial Symposium, focusing on propelling Africa into a new investment era. Hon. Jinapor aims to shed light on solutions to the continent’s greatest challenges, setting the stage for Ghana’s commitment to responsible resource management.

A key highlight includes the Minister’s lunch meeting with Goldfields Limited officials, emphasizing collaborative efforts in the pursuit of sustainable mining. Subsequently, a meeting with AngloGold Ashanti aims to strengthen partnerships and explore avenues for environmentally conscious mining practices.

As the days unfold, Minister Jinapor will dive into a series of strategic meetings with industry leaders, including Rand Refinery, Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI), B2Gold, and the US Development Finance Corporation (DFC). These engagements underscore Ghana’s dedication to fostering international cooperation for responsible mining.

The Minister’s participation reaches a higher height with a keynote speech at the Intergovernmental Summit. Here, he unveils Ghana’s vision for sustainable mining of green minerals, outlining strategies to balance supply and security while ensuring international mineral partnerships provide equitable value to producers.

In a panel discussion following his lunch meetings, Hon Jinapor will delve into the critical topic of international mineral partnerships. The discussion aims to explore whether these partnerships are delivering fair value to mining producers globally.

Hon. Jinapor’s day concludes with media engagements, including a studio interview with INDABA TV and a radio interview with Radio France Internationale (RFI). These interactions will provide the platforms to amplify Ghana’s commitment to responsible and sustainable mining practices on the global stage.

Hon. Samuel A. Jinapor’s engagements will reflect Ghana’s commitment to fostering responsible mining practices, driving sustainable growth, and building international partnerships for a prosperous mining future in Africa.

Mining Indaba serves as the backdrop for these engagements, offering a unique platform for stakeholders to discuss and address challenges in the mining sector. It acts as a catalyst for driving sustainable practices, fostering international collaboration, and charting a path towards responsible resource development.

In 2024 the Conference aims to elevate experiences through the theme: ‘Embracing the power of positive disruption: A bold new future for African mining’ – which will encourage and support the needed change and disruption the African mining industry needs to move forward.
