Rename Black stars to black soil – Shatta Wale fires after Ghana – Cape Verde loss (Video)
Shatta Wale, a well-known reggae and dancehall performer from Ghana, has voiced his displeasure with the Black Stars’ lackluster performance against Cape Verde in their African Cup of Nations (AFCON) opener.
The multiple award-winning musician criticized Ghana Football Association (GFA) officials in a video shared on social media, speculating that the team should be renamed “Black Soil” because of its alleged incapacity to achieve notable outcomes.
“How can a star be black? Name the team Black Soil so they can at least produce something because black soils are the best.” He said in the video.
The criticism is directed towards Ghana following their 2-1 loss to Cape Verde on Sunday, January 14, 2024, in the opening Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) match of 2023.
At the Felix Houphouet-Boigny Stadium, the Black Stars suffered a defeat as Cape Verde won thanks to goals from Garry Rodrigues and Jamiro Monteiro. Ghana received some comfort from Alexander Djiku’s one-shot effort, but not enough to change the outcome.
